The Plot

After its successful run in London, Stranger Things: The First Shadow arrives on Broadway to captivate audiences in New York. The play, a prequel to the famous Netflix series, takes us back to 1959 in Hawkins, Indiana, to tell the story of the Creel family, who are looking for a new beginning, especially for their teenage son Henry, whose main goal is to escape his turbulent past.

Upon arriving in Hawkins, Henry meets Patty, a strange outsider who, thanks to their romance, gives him hope for the first time in his life. However, a wave of crimes hits the city and Henry is forced to face a terrifying truth.

Mystery and suspense permeate every moment of the show, taking the audience on an incredible emotional journey that is only possible in the world of Stranger Things. This play has become a must-see on the New York stage, where special effects create a truly innovative theatrical experience. Proof of this are the two Olivier Awards it has won, including Best New Play.

What's more, you can enjoy the play even if you haven't seen the series, as you'll get to know the younger versions of the adults who star in the series. It'll be like travelling back in time to discover their origins!

Marquis Theatre

Stranger Things: The First Shadow is performed in the Marquis Theatre on Broadway. Located on the third floor of the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel, in Midtown Manhattan, this theatre opened in 1986 and has since hosted productions of notable musicals and plays, such as Me and My Girl, Annie Get Your Gun and Victor/Victoria. The theatre is also famous for its large size, with a capacity of over 1,600 spectators!

Seating Plan

The theatre assigns the best available seats together at the time of purchase. The sooner you book, the better! You can book tickets in the following areas:

  • Front Orchestra / Mid Orchestra / Front Mezzanine: the Orchestra is the area on the ground floor or stalls, closest to the stage. It offers a direct view of the show. The Mezzanine area refers to the first level above the Orchestra area. It's ideal for viewing the entire stage and choreography. Front seats are the first rows in each area, while the Mid area is located in the middle of each area.
  • Mid Orchestra Sides / Orchestra Sides / Front Mezzanine Far Sides / Mid Mezzanine Far Sides: Sides refers to the side seats. They are located to the left or right of the centre, with a slight incline, but are still excellent.
  • Rear Orchestra / Rear Mezzanine: these are the seats located at the back of the Orchestra section (stalls) or the Mezzanine (balcony).

At the following link, you can see the Marquis Theatre Seating Plan.

Ticket Availability

Frequently asked questions

  • Q - What is the difference between Orchestra and Mezzanine?

A - The Orchestra refers to the stalls and is located on the ground floor. It's therefore the area closest to the stage. The Mezzanine area is the first floor, corresponding to the first level above the Orchestra.

  • Q - What is the difference between Front, Mid and Rear seats?

A - Front seats are located at the front of each section and are therefore closest to the stage. Mid seats, on the other hand, are located in the middle of each section. Rear seats are usually cheaper, located at the back of each section and offer a better overall view of the stage.

  • Q - Are there bad seats in Broadway musical theatres?

A - Not really! Broadway theatres are surprisingly small and intimate, especially when compared to large concert venues. Even seats in the Balcony area (boxes or second floor) are usually closer to the stage than one might expect. Each seat offers a unique perspective: from the Orchestra (stalls), you can appreciate the expressions of the performers in the show, while from the Mezzanine (upper floor), you can enjoy sweeping views of the stage.

  • Q - What are the best seats for children?

A - For children, the best seating options are at the front of the mezzanine or the orchestra stalls. If the children are not very tall, side seats and seats in the rear should be avoided.

  • Q - How should we choose the best seats based on our budget?

A - If you want to enjoy the action, a good option is the side or rear seats in the orchestra section. For good views at a moderate price, another great option is the front seats in the mezzanine. If you're looking for the most economical seats, we recommend the Balcony or the last rows of the Rear Mezzanine. Both options allow you to enjoy the show with a great view and excellent acoustics.
